Makapu‘u Point Lighthouse Trail

East Side

The Makapu‘u Point Lighthouse Trail is one of our favorite family-friendly hikes, offering incredible views of Oahu’s southeastern coastline. This paved trail is an easy, scenic walk that rewards you with panoramic ocean views. At the top, you’ll see the historic Makapu‘u Lighthouse, which dates back to 1909. It’s a perfect hike for visitors of all ages, with no mud or rocky terrain to worry about—just stunning views and cool ocean breezes!

  • Length: 2 miles round trip (about 1 to 1.5 hours).

  • Parking: Free parking is available at the trailhead, but it fills up quickly. Arrive early or late in the afternoon for the best chance at a spot.

  • Trail Conditions: Fully paved, making it stroller-friendly and suitable for kids.

  • What to Bring: Sunscreen, water, a hat, and binoculars for whale watching during winter.

  • Crowds: This is a popular hike, so expect moderate crowds, especially on weekends and during whale season.
