‘Aiea Loop Trail
South Side
A peaceful forest vibe with some of the best ridge views of the island, the ‘Aiea Loop Trail is a fantastic choice. This trail winds through a mix of lush greenery and towering eucalyptus trees, offering scenic overlooks of Pearl Harbor and the Hālawa Valley. It’s a longer hike, but the relatively gentle incline makes it accessible for various fitness levels. We love this trail for its tranquility—it’s a great way to escape the busier parts of the island and immerse yourself in nature.
Length: 4.8 miles loop (about 2.5 to 3 hours).
Difficulty: Easy (manageable terrain with some gradual inclines).
Parking: Free parking is available at Keaiwa Heiau State Recreation Area. Arrive early on weekends to secure a spot.
Trail Conditions: The trail can be muddy and slippery after rain, so sturdy shoes are recommended. Watch out for exposed roots.
What to Bring: Water, bug spray, snacks, and a lightweight jacket (the forest can get cooler).
Crowds: This trail is less crowded than others, offering a more serene experience, especially on weekdays.
Safety Tip: Keep an eye out for trail markers—it's easy to wander off if you’re not paying attention.
